I am completely enamored by this artist. I was first introduced to Philip Pearlstein during my sophomore year in college. I was taking a figure drawing class with Professor Fred Burton. As I was looking through book after book of Pearlstein’s images I began to grasp a better understanding of the human figure. I was drawn to his work because he was deliberately distorting certain aspects of the body and still maintained a since of realness, he used unexpected and interesting points of view, and bucked the rules of cropping through heads, elbow and knee joints. In the end, he created beautiful compositions, pushing the boundaries of figure drawing.
